Brazil participates in SC 2001

Using the AMPATH 45 Mbs link between Rio de Janeiro and Miami, the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) was able to participate in Supercomputing 2001 in Denver, Colorado November 10-15, 2001. 

The University established a special (private) RNP link of 10 Mbs to Rio de Janeiro, speficially for SC2001. They are using an ATM 155 Mbs link between the university and their Access Grid node (a distance of 12 km) to receive video from SC2001 sessions.
