AMPATH Application Showcase

THE INTERNET STUDIO
This is a project between the School of Architecture at Florida International University and several universities in Latin-America (8 to 10 this year). The project has run for three years. Starting in August we will have around 400 students in 6 countries and 40 faculty working online in a semester long project together.

We communicate via web publishing, CAD, messenger, chat, IP and ISDN video-conference. 2001 will be our first year using high bandwidth through AMPATH (we have the possibility to do it with Chile and we are looking to do the same in Argentina and Venezuela).

This is the largest project of architectural studio education online in the world that I am aware of. It was featured at NHK TV CHANNEL, Japan in 1999 http://downloads.members.tripod.com/miami00/clip6.rm

Our objective is eventually enlarge the experience in a way that we can target large metropolitan problems in Latin American cities and include citizens, professionals, and institutions online in the design process.
