As data sizes continue to grow, domain scientists continue to struggle to make smart use of the high speed networks avialable to them. In support of this, the US National Science foundation has made three suppplemental awards in order to support advances in support for 100 gigabit networking. The three supplements are:

  • International Networks at Indiana University received a supplement to the America Connects to Europe (ACE) award (ACI-0962973) to support end-user science, the use of the Lustre distributed file system, and better monitoring and prediction for 100G networks.
  • Florida International University received a supplement to the Americas Lightpaths (AmLIght) award (ACI-0963053) to deploy an unprecedented experimental 100G alien wave between the U.S. and Brazil.
  • The StarLight consortium received a IRNC supplement (OCI-0962997) to create the Petascale Science Prototype Services Facility (PSPSF), an initiative to design and implement network architectures, services, and core capabilities in support of Big Data science over 100 Gbps trans-Atlantic paths.

In support of these awards, we will be holding a half day workshop to discuss the probelms and capabilities of the 100G testbeds and application use. This workshop is open, but we request that you rsvp to jmschopf@iu.edu if you plan to attend.
