Program Description
The IAP brings industry and high education together to insure that the highest quality workforce is available to support the new economy. Companies have the opportunity to form relationships with potential employees through internships formulated as part of the scholar's curriculum and have the lead on recruitment. This program is possible because of the AMPATH project, a collaboration between FIU and Global Crossing. Cisco Systems, Lucent Technologies Terremark Worldwide NAP of the Americas, Internet2, and STAR TAP have all contributed significant products and services. Selection Guidelines Appropriate students are identified using criteria provided by the Director of AMPATH, FIU faculty, and Industry Affiliates. Students may pursue undergraduate or graduate degrees relevant to Internet technologies. Scholars are designated by the company that is providing their scholarship but are not obligated to accept employment from the company benefactor,. Participation Levels
Funding is applied to scholarship tuition, salaries for students to work a maximum of twenty hours per week for FIU's Network Engineering and Telecommunications Department, and other appropriate areas of the University engaged in computer and networking projects such as the College of Engineering, Computer Science and Business Administration. Gigabit Partner: $25,000 Megabit Sponsor: $15,000 - $20,000 Network Supporter: $5,000 - $10,000 Donations are collected annually and companies are encouraged to make a three + year commitment to IAP so they can see their scholars through a degree program and into the workforce.
