2001: AMPATH Workshop to Identify Areas of Scientific Collaboration between the US and the AMPATH Service Area
FIU AMPATH Workshop Agenda
The workshop will be held in Miami, Florida at the Florida International University Koven’s Conference Center. The site is easily accessible from area hotels and the Miami International or Ft. Lauderdale International airports. The official conference hotel is Loews Miami Beach Hotel 1601 Collins Ave. 305-604-1601. The Loews has comfortable rooms, dining facilities, as well as a reception area and the well-known South Beach Art Deco Historical District. Bus transportation will be provided to and from the hotel to the Koven’s Conference Center located on the Biscayne Bay Campus in North Miami on August 16th.

The survey will be included in the AMPATH workshop program and on the workshop website.

Break-Out Session I: Researchers Round Table 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM in the Boardroom
This will be a smaller roundtable meeting of invited key researchers. The purposes of this session are:
· Outline the format and content of the report deliverable resulting from the workshop
· Build consensus on the factual findings of the workshop
· Solicit recommendations for the future of AMPATH with regard to deployment strategy, funding sources and proposal writing plans.
· Publication Plans
Break-Out Session II: Establish the AMPATH User’s Group 9:00 AM – 10:30 AM in the Periwinkle Conference Room
This is a session for AMPATH participant National Research Network executives and key stakeholders in the AMPATH project.
· Discussion of structure and management
· Definition of coordinated activities between AMPATH members and collaborators (research, education, and network requirements and opportunities)
· Discussion of implementation and administration methodologies
· Coordination among participants, FIU management and operations, Global NOC at Indiana University, and the AMPATH corporate sponsors (particularly Global Crossing and Terremark Worldwide NAP of the Americas)
Break-Out Session III: Establish the AMPATH Technical User’s Group 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM in the Periwinkle Conference Room
· Network engineers from the US NRNs and the AMPATH service area NRNs to establish the AMPATH technical users group
· Review Network Operations Center services provided by the Global NOC at Indiana University and Florida International University
· Discuss network configurations and provide support information to emerging National Research Networks in the AMPATH service area
· Recommended active equipment, quality controls
